Owen Loughman is a highly-decorated Navy SEAL who has a thirst for action. But there’s one thing he hasn’t been able to forget: his high school sweetheart, Natalie. After more than a decade away, Owen has returned home to the ranch in Texas for a dangerous new mission that puts him face-to-face with Natalie and an outside menace that threatens everything he holds dear. He’ll risk it all to keep Natalie safe—and win her heart.

Natalie Dixon has had a lifetime of heartache since Owen was deployed. Fourteen years and one bad marriage later, she finds herself mixed up with the Loughmans again. With her life on the line against an enemy she can’t fight alone, it’s Owen’s strong shoulders, smoldering eyes, and sensuous smile that she turns to.

Review: Hero by Donna Grant is book #1 in her newest series Sons of Texas. I have  read a few other books by Donna Grant and I have always enjoyed them, but Hero falls in a whole different category. I am new to the military romance genre but after reading Hero I think it has become one of my favorites genres of the year.

Hero follows the story of Owen Loughman, a highly decorated operative/Navy Seal. Owen as everyone in his family lived to be a military man and he has been proud to serve his country, his duty and love for it runs deep and it goes beyond duty. But not all is at it seems, Owen’s life changed the moment his mother was murdered, his father who was also a military men brought tragedy to his own and the consequence was the murder of his mother, after it all happened Owen closed himself away and joined the Navy, he made his service more than a service, he made it a mission, he made it a life, he made it his reason. But while he was away he pushed aside any notion of his father, and whatever relationship he had with his father in the past stayed in the past.

Owen wasn’t alone in his pain, his brothers and father also grieved their mother/wife death but they all did it differently. Owen had a beautiful girlfriend who he loved deeply but one he had to leave behind if he wanted to become the man he hoped to be. After years of service and while in the middle of a mission he was pulled out and called home.

The story then stars to unraveled into a suspenseful, and exhilarating tale in which Owen has to prove once again what he is made of while relying on people he once left behind. What starts as a visit to his father’s farm develops into a crime scene and slowly turns into a suspenseful government espionage of international involvement, with high stakes. The story develops quickly, the reader is brought out into the front line of a man who uses his skills to avenge his family while saving the life of his father and the woman he loves.

Hero is a very engaging and entertaining story of two lovers who are reunited under unexpected circumstances and while danger is at every turn, they do everything necessary to keep each other safe. This is a fantastic first book to what promises to be a very exciting and exhilarating tale of forgiveness, second chances, government espionage & military conspiracy.
