I was supposed to be studying but then Cameron walked through the door!
I gently nudged my arm against his. I jolted back in surprise as a hot, thrilling, tingling sensation ran up my arm when my bare skin brushed against his… Did he feel that sensation too? How does that happen from touching someone?
University student, Wiley Cayton’s world turns upside down when she meets college newcomer Cameron Wilks. With his irresistible good looks, he seems to be nothing but a party-boy and a constant distraction. But is there more to the hottest guy on campus?
Even when Wiley finds out about Cameron’s troubled past, she’s determined to keep her distance and her previously shattered heart protected. But with him studying the same degree and falling in with her group of friends, she’s drawn to him in unexplainable, illogical ways. How can one’s heart overrule one’s mind? Inevitably she falls for his charismatic charm and her insecurities take hold. Her life spirals out of control and she struggles to find balance between partying, sex and maintaining her scholarship grades.
With her future at risk, her family battle to keep her and Cameron apart, but that only weaves their relationship tighter together. When a college prank goes horribly wrong – threads snap, and just when she needs him most, Cameron disappears. Is their tumultuous romance meant to be or is it just a temporary distraction?
Review: Distractions is the 3rd book I read by Tania Joyce. I have enjoyed author Joyce’s writing from the moment I read her first book, her writing is descriptive and detailed and often has a very good narrative. Her stories though not necessarily deep and profound they have a realistic feel to them.
Distractions is a new adult romance that explores the reality of two college students. Wiley a responsible, studious and intelligent young woman with a set goal in mind, graduate without major incidents, enjoy college life without much distraction and stay focus without being interrupted by any guys. As the story flows we get to know Wiley, a very sweet and caring girl with a focus in mind and high standards for herself. It is while we follow Wiley around campus that we get to know her friends and witness her relationship with them. While Wiley already have a certain history and heart break she doesn’t necessarily dwell much on that incident and has moved on with her life as a new semester starts.
It is during one of those campus escapades that we meet Cam, the sweet and unassuming guy, mysterious but approachable, sweet and funny but not the group clown, but the caring and young guy who attends the small town college with the intention to start anew, away from the chaos that was his life when his girlfriend died.
Distractions as the title entails, detail Wiley’s struggles to maintain focus on a goal while also allowing herself to enjoy life and the guy she has come to develop feelings for. From their interaction and college life to the way in which they establish their relationships, the author brings a lot of their everyday life into the story. I enjoyed seeing Wiley and Cam’s relationship grown from just friends to lovers. While the story at times slows down, the author manages to keep Wiley’s and Cam’s story entertaining giving us mundane details that only add to the overall charm and realistic feel of the story.
While the story didn’t go through deep and sorrowful situations, the author did a great job exposing Cam’s experience with the lost of a loved one. I think this story brought out the typical college drama that many of readers can find easy to identify with. Distractions clearly exposes & explores the ups and downs of college life, and how distracting love can be, but only when it is real. Wiley and Cam’s relationship went through the typical ups and downs, the story’s narrative and their characters made this story feel real and easily relatable, the ups and downs and the ins and out of young love is what makes Distractions a sweet & sexy read.
