Review: Dark Matter is the first book I read by Blake Crouch, and it certainly will not be the last. Dark Matter is a exciting, captivating & fascinating Sci Fi Thriller that will transport you to a world where the impossible becomes possible.
This mind bending story takes place in modern day Chicago, where professor Jason Dessen lives with his family. A professor of Physics at a small college, unaware of the changes happening in place far away from his world and life, but changes that will forever alter everything he ever loved and care for. The story starts by introducing us to Jason’s family, wife and son. It is then when the author Crouch takes us into the world of Jason Dessen, a man who made the decision to married the love of his life and have a child instead of continue his career as a promising physicist. From the time he chose love over career Jason Dessen set his life towards the path that would one day either break him or make him. For every decision made there are consequences, but as Jason live his life he has had very few regrets, or perhaps haven’t voice them.
Jason’s life seems rather uninteresting until the moment he gets kidnap by a man he never met. When Jason is taken to a dark and remote place he knows this is the end, but what he doesn’t know is that while he may not die that very night, his kidnapper has set in motion a plan to take over the life Jason has come to value and love over everything else.
Dark Matter takes the reader into a roller-coaster ride of high angst and emotions, where science reached unprecedented levels and where the impossibility of traveling to parallel worlds comes a reality. While this story explores the consequences of science and the way in which humanity explores and exploit knowledge it also explores the human side and the repercussions of our actions. I enjoyed the twists and turns of the story, the guessing and the discoveries made along side Jason. Dark Matter is a greedy, well written story that will make you wonder, second guess and question our own reality.
