REVIEW: Counsellor is the first book I read by Celia Aaron, this isn’t your typical love story or romance for that matter. It doesn’t have the sweet and tenderness, or the slowly development to a profound and sweet love story, not at all. Counsellor is far from tender. This story is about desire, power, old rules and betrayal.
Counsellor is a dark erotic romance that explores the dark old traditions of certain southern families. From the moment I started reading Counsellor, I was brought into a scene in which the main characters were already at war, bringing into the table the feud that seem to show one man’s power over another.
It seems there is already a certain history behind the these families, Sinclair has taken possession of Stella by means of deceit and power but not without breaking her heart in the process. Stella does not want to see her father going to jail therefore feels her sacrifice will be enough to keep her father away from danger without realizing that in the process she was being forced into a danger of a whole different level. The story develops slowly, the life of these characters slowly entwined into a web of lies, deceit and lust that is clearly creating tension, starting an inner battle between lust & tradition. Each chapter brings more tension, new realities and consequences that make the story a page turner.
Cousellor as many other erotic romances brings a lot to the table, deceit, power, passion and lust. The plot however not necessarily original it does keep a high level of tension and entertainment. Fans of the Indebted series by Pepper Winters will find themselves at home with Counsellor.
