Review: Another fantastic installment in the Midnight Breed Series, Lara Adrian has kept the momentum and this series just keeps getting better. With a younger and more active generation of the breed, these stories bring a lot to the table.
As in previous stories, the breed keeps fighting the order, an organization that is bent on eliminating vampires at all cost. The battle is brought to the streets and nobody is safe, not even humans. In an attempt to eliminate this very powerful enemy – the breed keeps training warriors and spreading their coverage.
Kaya is a new trainee, she has worked hard to get there, she has left behind secrets and family and it is only concentrating on the future. But it isn’t until she meets the breed warrior Aric Chase that life starts getting complicated. As these characters meet, the awareness of each other’s presence becomes a distraction, their attraction grows and soon enough they start exploring whatever it is they have found on each other.
As Ari and Kara are sent on a mission and into enemy territory their training is put to the test. As these two warriors find themselves in danger, their attraction and emotions start to make an impact in the trust they put on each other. The story slowly takes us into the fight and the agony that is left behind after every order strike. As Kara is confronted by her past, she can’t maintain the relationship she has established with Ari. On the other hand, Ari isn’t afraid to explore the feelings that started to develop between him and Kara. As these two characters fight for their life and the lasting existance of the breed, their reciliance is put to the test. The story is filled with high emotions, fights and deceit.
I enjoyed this story, perhaps it is the best of the past 3 books. The story is fascinating, the stakes are high and the breed keep fighting, the battle has been brought to their door step and death is lurking closer. These two characters have a very high sense of loyalty, I found myself enjoying their flirting, banter than their fight against the order. I am looking forward to the next story, in this new generation of the breed, the author has given us a whole new perspective and while the action, romance, and love keeps making its way into the life of the breed and their mates, the story keeps evolving without becoming redundant.
