RD – Can we first start by learning a little bit about you?  What would you like people to know about you that we probably don’t know?

JL – My name is Jamie Lynn Dougherty and I live in southern California with my husband of 12 years and our two children. Besides writing I am also a mixed media artist, I teach workshops, Product design and sell my work.

RD – If you could have a super power which would it be?

JL – If I were to have a super power I would like to fly. That would just be the most surreal feeling ever. To have the freedom and view would be a dream.

RDAngels, Vampire or Wolf?

JL– My first book is about angels but I would have to say I’m quite fond of wolves and shifters.

RD – Please tell us about your book.  What’s it about?

JLThe Guardian’s Soul

“How do you know if a soul is worth saving?” ~Sam
God has a plan for us all, even Samantha Brand. It has been weeks since Sam lost Trent to the Devil and she fears she may have lost him forever but refuses to give up hope. Does Trent feel the same? After days of hunting Trent down, Sam finds herself the hunted as she gains a few new enemies that are out to destroy her at all costs. Everyone sees Trent as a lost cause except for Babs, who is more than willing to help her sister out–even if that means getting into trouble in the process. Sam also has H.B., who hates seeing Sam throw herself so deeply down Trent’s path but loves her too much to stop her. He would do anything for Sam, for a love that H.B.’s been haunted by his entire life. Has Sam lost sight of God’s big picture and has her love for Trent clouded her judgment? Prophesies and sacrifice must go hand in hand to regain the balance between good and evil.

RDWhere did you get the inspiration or idea for this book?

JL – This may sound cliche but I thought of my first book after a week long dream I had. I would fall asleep each night and find myself shoved into the middle of this crazy world. Dreams like these are a regular occurrence for me so I have quite a few stories jotted down waiting to be brought to life.

RDHow did the title of your book come about?

JL – The title of my book actually came after I designed the cover. I found this beautiful feather to use and it sparked the idea for the title. I had been playing with ideas for weeks and something just clicked when I put the cover together.

RDWho would you cast for your main male & female character?

JL – I have a hard time picturing actual actors for the characters. I often see a mix of a few actors/actresses or models when I write. They begin to morph into their own person.

RD – How long have your been writing? Was it a dream, a goal or is it just a hobby?

JL – I have a very active imagination. I started by just jotting down scenes and short stories and decided that I would brave the writing world and put one of my stories out there. My first book is a rough unedited version, I am currently in the process of going back and doing edits and a slight rewrite.

RDIf you could time travel where would you go and which Era?

JL – If I could travel to any era I would travel back to 50’s. Love the style and beauty of that time in America.

RDCat or Dog?

JL – I am a definite dog person. Loyalty of man’s best friend.

RDWho influences you?

JL – I have always looked at the writing of Stephen King and Anne Rice. I grew up reading their books and enjoyed the immense creativity they put into their stories.

RD – Favorite quote from a book?

JL – “Get busy living or get busy dying.” ― Stephen King, The Shawshank Redemption

Thank you Jamie for being so kind and answering the questions,  I enjoyed The Guardian’s Soul very much. Looking forward to reading more of your work.

Description: “How do you know if a soul is worth saving?” Samantha Brand has been torn away from Trent, and feels she is forever tethered to his darkness, but she sees a light in H.B. that pulls her from the depths of her despair. Sam fights to save Trent but finds that he may not want to be saved after all. Can Sam convince Trent otherwise, or have the strength to let him go forever.

Sam’s forges on to find that her destiny doesn’t stop at Trent and what she finds might just kill her. The war continues to wage on between good versus evil and in the end one must pay the ultimate sacrifice to bring the war to an end.

REVIEW: The Guardian Soul is the continuation to The Guardian’s Kiss. The story did not disappoint me, the fight against the devil takes a toll and it is a battle to the death.

I enjoyed this installment of the book a lot more than I did the first, but do not get me wrong I enjoyed the first book a lot. What I like even more about this book is how well author Jamie Lynn Dougherty thought out the characters and how she was able to describe their feelings, their surrounding and their actions in ways that made you feel as if you were there.

A big surprise for me was Trent, his change was full and he was now a fallen. His struggles were obvious and his good side was deeply hidden and now masked by his anger and lust which he couldn’t control. I like how the author was able to give us a glimpse into Trent’s mind, showing us his struggles, anger and confusion.

“What do you want” I hissed.
“What do you think I want Samantha? What I’ve wanted all along…You. You might not live though what I am going to do with you, but at least no one else’ll have you either. That’s unless they like my sloppy seconds.”

I was also glad to see H.B. become an important part in the story. Of all the characters,  he  proved to be the wisest. I liked how we were able to get into his mind and see things unfold from his point of view. His dedication and love for Sam was beautiful yet frustrating.

In this installment we get to see a different Sam, perhaps a bit more mature, more grounded. I totally enjoyed the interaction between her and Barb, it made me laugh more than once. The interaction between the characters was simple yet it felt real.

I enjoyed the drama, the action the fights and the whole love triangle between Sam, Trent & H.B.  Though I was happy to see feelings developing more I was a bit disappointed at some of the outcome. I was totally OK with the love triangle but I suppose it wasn’t realistic and she had to go with the one who she was meant to be with. A really surprising ending.

A great love story with fantastic characters and nonstop action that will keep you glue to the pages until the end. Jamie Lynn Dougherty is an author you want to keep an eye on.

    • Hi Kim,
Thanks, the series is fun, very different from others angel series I have read. This series has a bit of everything, demons, zombies and angels of course. It also has a nice message behind it – it sort of touches spirituality in a way that doesn’t feel like the author is preaching. It is a really nice.
