A swindler haunted by his past . . .
Georgie Turner has made his life pretending to be anyone but himself. A swindler and con man, he can slip into an identity faster than he can change clothes. But when his long-dead conscience resurrects and a dangerous associate is out for blood, Georgie escapes to the wilds of Cornwall. Pretending to be a secretary should be easy, but he doesn’t expect that the only madness he finds is the one he has for the gorgeous earl.
Can they find forever in the wreckage of their lives?
Challenging each other at every turn, the two men soon give into the desire that threatens to overwhelm them. But with one man convinced he is at the very brink of madness and the other hiding his real identity, only true love can make this an affair to remember.
REVIEW: The Lawrence Browne Affair was such a surprise. When I came across the book on Amazon I couldn’t control my curiosity and bought it, from the book description to the book cover I was instantly sold.
The Lawrence Brown Affair follows the love story of two very different men. Lawrence, an aristocrat whose life from the time he was a child has been a test. Throughout his life Lawrence has suffered greatly, his father was abusive, his brother an alcoholic, and it is not secret that his family bores a dark mark to their name, a madness that also threatens Lawrence.
The story unravels beautifully, we are soon introduced to Georgi, a resourceful and witty swindler who finds himself in a bit of trouble when his conscience gets in the way of business. As Georgi finds himself on the run, he turns to the only one person who he can trust, his brother. But by doing so he finds an opportunity he can’t resist, disappear and stay alive or stay and risk putting the family he loves in danger.
As the story develops, these very different characters are put together under unusual circumstances. Lawerence sanity comes under question and the only way to prove he isn’t going crazy is by accepting the help of a secretary who will most likely get on his way rather than help, however as these two characters come to realize their companionship is not only what they both need but what soon they both come to crave.
I found myself enjoying this story so very much, I was unable to put the book away because their story was as engrossing as it was romantic. Lawerence is a scientist whose creations comes from the heart and his inability to relate to anyone else, in a search to try to come close to people, he finds himself creating a technology that could revolutionize the way in which people communicated between distances. It is then that Lawrence and Georgi come closer than they expected, not because Lawrence needed Georgi’s ability to help him complete his work, but because Georgi questioned Lawrence in ways nobody had done before.
Their interaction & banter was sweet, romantic, entertaining and witty. These two men found on each other acceptance, compassion and a passion they were not able to deny, but a passion they both knew well could bring great consequences. Lawrence passion was as strong as Georgi’s willingness. The author did such a great job giving us a story that covers so much ground in a time where society and its values were held to the high standard, more so than their right to be loved. I enjoyed the setting of old England & the countryside, the back stories & experiences each of these characters shared, and I loved Georgi’s personality and wit, he gave the story a wonderful balance.
Cat Sebastian writes great romance and The Lawrence Crowne Affair has made me want to read everything she writes. If you love Regency romance and M/M romance you want to pick this book. Be ready to fall in love with these characters and their story, they are passionate, loyal & strong.
