Six years ago, Eoin "Striker” MacLean endured the greatest betrayal of his life, a disaster that led Robert the Bruce to a crushing defeat and left Eoin without the spirited woman who ruled his heart. Eoin knew that falling in love with his sworn enemy’s daughter was risky, dividing him between a possessive desire for beautiful Margaret MacDowell and an undying loyalty to his king. He promised Bruce that he would keep his fiery bride in the dark about the elite Highland Guard, but he could not predict the dire consequences his secret would have on his young marriage. Nor could he foresee how surrendering to temptation could cripple Bruce’s cause, forcing Eoin to blame his wife—and himself for trusting her.
Now, as Bruce prepares to challenge the resistance’s remaining strongholds, Eoin finally has his chance for revenge against the woman he once loved so fiercely and her entire clan. But when ferociously independent Margaret reveals a surprise that unites her with Eoin, neither of them will let their love go down without a fight
REVIEW: The Striker is the first book I read by Monica McCarty and it certainly will not be the last. It may not seem so to you but I am a big fan of Historical Romance. The Striker is perhaps one of my favorite thus far because it has all the elements I think historical romance must have.
The Striker is the story of Eoin MacLean a handsome, intelligent and strong highlander & The beautiful unruly and headstrong Margaret MacDowell. These two characters were fantastic together and their story was not only heart wrenching but it was also exciting and beautiful.
Eoin is one of those characters one talk about long after finishing the book. He is strong, physically & mentally and when his mind and heart are set on something he goes at it head on. He is a warrior and has never steer away from his goals, that’s to protect his king and to make sure the war is won at all cost. That was until the day he meets the beautiful read head, a woman who provoked emotions he had never experience before; arousal, lost of concentration & desires he didn’t think he had.
Margaret is a free spirited woman, whose nature is to take even the most difficult times lightly. She is loving, sweet, loyal and a woman who values her family and those she loves. She is a flirt and a woman who loves having fun and takes great pleasure on making those around her happy, however all that changes when her eyes fall on the very handsome and strong Eoin McLean.
These two characters are fantastic. Eoin is focused on his future and his loyalty to his king, though at times he can be frustrating he can also swoon with his passionate desire and feelings for Margaret. Margaret is not the typical reserved and quiet wife most men would expect to find. She is a fire cracker, mouthy and unruly, making this story even more fun and enjoyable. Their romance started strong but their strong nature almost caused them to lose each other. Eoin demands trust and loyalty almost as much as he gives it. Trust is something Eoin values and he expect his woman to feel it as strong he does. He definitely is not the typical male character, his actions always are measured and he is always willing to confront the consequences head on. Margaret on the other hand, let her feelings and passions dictate her actions, and though she loves and is loyal to the man she loves, her feelings are constantly in conflict with her actions.
The Striker is an amazing story, it brings the reader into a story filled with history and both passion and desire. The author did an amazing job creating a set of characters and scenarios that swoon us from the first page. Their interaction, the emotions, the settings and the story itself is beautifully crafted. I have become a big fan of Monica McCarty, she certainly knows how to create alpha males that bring it all to the table, emotions, desires, need and heart felt story that will be in readers mind for a long time.
If you are looking for a story that has it all, history, love, passion & emotion then look no further. Read The Striker, you will not regret it.
