REVIEW: When I started reading Farsighted I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into. A blind high school kid trying to survive his high school years, a bully who doesn’t leave him alone and a father who can’t almost tolerate him. Though the story starts slowly it catches up quickly and we get introduced to Alex’s everyday struggles.
Farsighted has a little bit of everything a good YA Paranormal read has, it has the drama that comes with the young years of being in high school, the drama and struggles of an unwanted gift and it has the romance aspect that adds the necessary balance to make it entertaining. Alex has not allowed his disability dictate his future or his present, but his unwanted gift becomes a constant struggle. Alex’s has no ordinary gift; he is able to see the future, a future that he can’t always change. His inability to foresee when these “episodes” are going to happen frustrates him and makes him react and act out against his friends.
What I enjoyed about this story is that though the main character is impaired the author is able to create a strong character, who is easy to like. Alex’s situation does not inspire pity. I also enjoyed Simmi, she is calm, sweet and very understanding. Her character adds diversity to the story without making it obvious. I enjoyed how Alex’s relationship with Simmi moved from friends to more than just friends.
Overall, Farsighted is a good YA paranormal, it isn’t a fast pace story but it can keep you interested until the last page. Emlyn Chand is an author you want to keep an eye on.
