Daywalker Brynne Kirkland survived a hellish upbringing as a product of a madman's lab. Tough, driven, and devoted to her work in law enforcement, Brynne has never dared to risk opening her heart to anyone--least of all a handsome immortal from a world on the verge of war against hers.

Atlantean warrior Zael left the intrigue of his realm several lifetimes ago, along with the battles he fought as one of the queen's legion. As a free-spirited loner walking the fringe of two worlds--that of his secretive and powerful people, and the outside world belonging to mankind and the Breed--it was never his intention to return to combat and bloodshed. Nor had he imagined that he might ever be tempted into anything stronger than desire . . . until he meets Brynne.

Thrust together as allies of the Order in the fight against a diabolical enemy, Zael and Brynne embark on a mission that will ultimately force them to decide between duty to their people, and a passion that defies all bounds.

REVIEW:  Lara Adrian brings us back to the world of The Midnight Breed in Defy The Dawn. Humans now live with the knowledge of vampires and while things seem to be normal, terror seems to be pushing humans and vampires alike to their limit. With Opus Nostrum and now Selena the Queen of Atlantis causing havoc – Lucan and the Order have their hands full.

Lucan has to find a way to counter attack, but before he can do that he must make sure he forms alliances, something that assures him that when the time to fight Selena comes he will not have to fight those in exile as well. I really enjoyed this installment, it is clear that the Midnight Breed has a lot more to offer and the quality of this story just keeps getting better.

Brynne & Zael are such an exciting couple, they both have a past that have left deep scars. Brynne is a unique kind of breed. She is a gen one but something more, while she knows and understands her nature, she is also afraid of what she becomes when it is time to feed. Zael on the other hand, enjoyed Brynne’s uniqueness. Their attraction is feral and real, but while Zael knows it and understands it, Brynne fights it. I really enjoy how their relationship came to be, though it didn’t have much of a foundation we do know the attraction was mutual and equally strong.

Lara Adrian has once again manage to give us a greedy, sexy, sensual and action packed story that leave us craving for more. The Midnight Breed series has always being one of my favorite series, I have come love these characters and their story. Each one brings something unique and great to the story, from their abilities to their individual journey.

Defy The Dawn is everything I wanted and expected from Lara Adrian’s writing. Her ability to bring these characters to life never cease to amaze me. The story keeps developing and evolving into something amazing. I am looking forward to the next book and how these characters evolve, their stories are captivating and quite entertaining.
