Clara Morgan is living the dream, if you can call rebranding hotels that are desperate for a new life and running any kind of marathon a dream. Which she does. But the career she loves and the endurance races that keep her adrenaline pumping have kept her too busy to put down any roots. Growing up in foster care, she’s never been able to establish traditions of her own, which may be why she’s fascinated by the rituals that generations-old family resorts are known for. She’s especially interested in the Bryant Mountain House, and not just for their secret recipe for the yummy, gooey, can’t-get-enough-of Hot Cross Buns….
Archie Bryant, the man with the Buns, is fifth generation and one-day-owner of the charming yet run-down Bryant Mountain House in Bailey Falls, New York. He’s determined to save his family’s legacy from the wrecking ball the old-fashioned way—by gritting his teeth and doing what needs to be done. There’s no way Archie will be influenced by the new hotel branding expert his father brought in to turn one hundred and fifty years of tradition on its head just to attract a faster, younger, slicker crowd. But when some of Clara’s ideas start bringing in new, paying customers, Archie can’t deny that she may have just given him a shot at keeping his resort open.

Review: The Hudson Valley Series has been one I have enjoyed very much. It started with Nuts, followed by Cream of The Crop & its final installment Buns.
Buns are Clara & Archie’s story, the elusive and always busy girl that we heard so much about in Nuts & Cream of The Crop. Clara is best friends with Roxie & Natalie. She is sweet yet reserved and always keep information about her life to herself, she carries the burden of her childhood close to her heart because for Clara, getting close to anyone is not an option. Clara is hard working, intelligent and on top of her game, but as we get to know her we learn that there is more to her than her ability to bring life to her projects. As the story starts to develop and we meet these characters one can’t help but feel connected to their story. Now that Clara has finally found her way to her next project a new challenge has presented.
While the author has shortened the angst in previous installments, this time around we have a more detailed and open character which in terms give the reader a deeper glimpse into their emotions and previous struggles.
As these characters start to interact and Clara meets Archie, their attaction and professional relationships start to spark confrontation. Clara feels attracted to Archie and in terms, Archie’s attraction for Clara takes front row. I enjoyed how well rounded Archie is, he goes for what he wants. Though Archie is guarded, he isn’t afraid of experiment and experience everything there is to know about Clara.
The author did a great job bringing these two very different characters together, their story and history entwine in a way that makes the story believable while also giving the reader the needed spark to make this story a total hit. Clara and Archie while not the perfect couple, they are a perfect compliment for each other. Buns is the final chapter in the Hudson Valley Series and it was the perfect story to end this fun and sexy series.
Clara and Archie were fun to read, their chemistry sexy and their stories heart breaking.
