New York Times bestselling author Lara Adrian introduces the first novel in a thrilling new vampire romance series set in the darkly seductive Midnight Breed paranormal story world.
As a former assassin in the Hunter program, Asher is one of a small group of Gen One Breed vampires who survived the horrors of a madman’s laboratory and the cruelty of the training that made him one of the most lethal beings in existence. Now, twenty years after his escape from those hellish origins, Ash is a loner whose heart is as cold as his skills are lethal. But when a beautiful, secretive young woman on the run from dangerous enemies crosses his path in the middle of a dark night in the desert outside Las Vegas, Ash is drawn into a deadly game where trust can be an illusion and love may be the sharpest weapon of all.
Review: Born of Darkness is the first book in the spin off series Midnight Breed Hunters Legacy by Lara Adrian. And as in her Midnight Breed series these characters come in all shapes and forms and most times than not, with a ton of complications.
Born of Darkness is the story of Asher, one of the deadliest Hunters created by Dragos. As the story developes with get glimpses into Asher’s life after the Hunter program was destroyed over 20 years ago. But now that Hunters roam the world all in different stages of life, Asher finds himself among humans after he meets a man who forever changes his life, and perspective.
Naomi has one goal in life, and that goal is to destroy the man who killed her mother. She will do it slowly, hitting him exactly where she knows it will hurt the most – his money. But after trouble comes knocking, she finds herself in a precarious situation and it is then when she meets Asher. He saves her life, all the while she is saving his.
The story of these two very different characters united by destiny is one that I enjoyed thoroughly. Lara Adrian as usual manages to give us both passion and sensuality. It is the way in which she writes these stories that most time than not we find ourselves glued to until the last page. With a certain level of uncertainty, these characters embark into a situation that neither of them was ready for. Asher went from duty bound to a soul and heart connection with Naomi. Naomi while reluctantly understood that she couldn’t do everything alone, she understood that trusting Asher was not just a necessity but it was also vital. As their story progress these characters discover each other’s secrets as well as their vulnerabilities, giving into the undeniable attraction and sexual tension that had developed between then.
With a lot of action, manipulations and sensuality, Lara Adrian has yet again proven to be one of the best writers of paranormal romance. Her stories keep getting better, and these characters bring a good game to the table which often times put our hearts and soul on the brink of desperation. This introduction to the spin off series is exactly the kind of introduction readers need. One with passion, sensuality and the exact amount of action necessary to keep one glued to the pages until the very end.
