Callie Reed doesn’t need a man to protect her. An expert sharpshooter and renegade hacker, this Texas-born spitfire’s got the skills and the courage to stand up to any danger―no matter how deadly. But when she becomes the target of a shadowy organization known as the Saints, Callie is forced to team up with the one man she can’t outshoot: the gorgeous, and infuriating, Lone Star legend named Wyatt Loughman…
A Delta Force Colonel with a rock-hard body and stone-cold heart, Wyatt has been teasing and tormenting Callie since they were playmates on his family’s ranch. Of course, he’s wildly attracted to the fiery, strong-willed Callie. But he’s always hidden his feelings behind a wall of Texas tough and military cool, even as he’s burning up with desire. Can Wyatt save Callie’s life―without putting her love in the line of fire?
Review: The Legend is book #3 in the Sons of Texas Series. In this last installment the fight against the bad guys comes close to home, and a lot is at stake.
In previous installments Orrin was capture by the Saints and kept prisoner, however his salvation came by the hand of his captor Yuri. As the story progresses we are taken into different stages of planning and fighting the Saints. Mia and Cullen have stayed in DC to help capture and eliminate the scientist responsible for creating the bio-weapon. But while things seem to be going in their favor back at the ranch Wyatt & Callie seem to struggle not only with what is soon to come but with the idea that at any given time any of them could die.
The Legend is Wyatt and Callie’s love story, their relationship has had its share of trouble and heart break. Throughout the series Grant manages to give us a glimpse into each and everyone one of these characters emotions and feelings. The brothers relationship while not a perfect one, they each hold high regards and respect for each other. Each brother seem to have gone through heart break and sorrow after their mother was murdered. As each of these brothers come to terms with the fact their lives have been altered forever and have accepted their destiny, Wyatt on the other hand is still as troubled with his feelings for Callie as he was when he first left.
Grant has managed to write a fantastic story of love, second chances, forgiveness and bravery. Wyatt & Callie story is as heart felt as it is passionate & even frustrating. The relationship that developed between them, started with raw passion and deep understanding. They each found on each other the support and understanding they desired but didn’t know they needed. Grant did a fantastic job creating a story that transcend time, what started years ago between two young adults, later transformed into a flame that refused to be extinguished over the years. After tragedy hit home, Wyatt found himself unable to forgive his father for what happened to his mother but at the same time, he punished himself by leaving Callie behind.
I enjoyed these characters greatly. Wyatt is a strong willed man with a lot of pain in his heart, a man who found the way to turned his pain into raw passion and skills. After his family suffered at the hand of a group that threatens the world and the people he loves, Wyatt along side those he never thought he would see again fight to bring an end to it. This story is beautiful because it explores the struggle of mourning, the struggles that come with true love and the struggles that come with forgiving one self. On the other hand, for Callie being in control of herself and her emotions isn’t just what she need but what she fights for. I think Callie’s passion and love for Wyatt is not only beautiful but also fascinating. It isn’t easy for her to forget what she once felt for Wyatt and being so close to him has awaken a need she thought buried long ago. While these characters aren’t perfect, their flaw balance out their story by giving us examples of their struggles and indecision. While at times these characters portrait control and endurance, other times they simply show us the insecurity that comes with loss and betrayal.
The Legend beautifully explores Wyatt’s emotions and feelings towards his family and Callie, it also give us a glimpse into the man who struggles with his feelings and inability to put into words the things his heart tells him. I enjoyed Callie thoroughly, she is passionate, skillful and flat out bad-ass. She is the epitome of a great heroine. Grant might’ve finished with these 3 brothers love story but I have a hunch we will be hearing from these characters again because the fight against the Saints has just started.
