REVIEW:
Remember that BP mess back in 2010, remember the news about this massive fire at Deepwater Horizon offshore oil drilling platform? Well this was real and the movie by the same name was based on that terrible event. Deepwarter Horizon narrates the events that ended in the disaster that caused 11 death and billions in lawsuits and terrible damage to the marine life in the golf coast.

This movie explores and narrates the situations in which these men and women found themselves thanks to the negligence and greed. The movie has a great cast with Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell, John Malkovich at the top. These characters bring this story to life by giving the people behind the disaster a voice, a presence and the acknowledgement they deserve. The story develops quick and we right away are introduced to representatives of BP,  the technicians and engineers that make sure everything runs smoothly. But right we are exposed to BP’s manipulations and the implications  of their decisions. The film also explores the predicament and the frustration this type of job carries,  it also shows that no matter how much these men try to avoid disaster the pushing and pressure of producing oil and making money amounts to more than safety.

I enjoyed this movie greatly, not because it was very engrossing and heart wrenching, but because it was as realistic as Hollywood can make it. From the dialog to the lingo Deepwater Horizon gives a viewer a first row view of what these men and women go through everyday, the risks they take and family they leave behind every time they arrive at any of these oil drilling platforms.

Deepwater Horizon is deep & heartbreaking but it is also an eye opening. There is no doubt that Hollywood managed to get inside information on what really happened in order come as close to what really happened as they could. The acting was superb, the dialog and the action was heart stopping. If you are looking for something interesting to watch this weekend make it Deepwater Horizon. The real feel of this movie is going to make your heart hurt and at times take your breath away.

Note: Get the popcorn, the water and the tissue ready – you are going to need it.
