Get to know Jessica:
I am originally from Mississippi but moved to Maine in 2014 where I live with my husband and three children ages 2, 8, 11. I started out writing poetry when I was 10 and since then I have had several poems published. Some in the Poetry Society books and some on the internet. I was also awarded the Publisher’s Choice Award for my poem A Lost Soul. Corruption of the Heart is my debut book.
Writing paranormal come pretty easy to me I think because it is the types of books that I read. I like to make my paranormal characters different. In Corruption of the Heart I didn’t want my vampires to be something to be feared. I wanted them to be loved. I wanted them to be the good guys. I wanted my main character Lilith, to be the one that raised questions. Is she bad? Is she good? When Lilith goes through her transformation she becomes somewhat of a different person. Which in her case, isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The hardest character to write in this book was Slaaneth. I wanted him to be vial. He played games with Lilith’s head. He haunted her dreams almost any time she went to sleep. It was hard to tap into that kind of hate. But in the end, I love the way his character turned out.
My writing process is fairly simple. I put on my headphones, crank up Apocalyptica which is a Finnish cello metal band from Helsinki, Finland and I write. I can write almost anywhere at almost any time. If I’m not in front of my computer I will jot down parts of my story on napkins or pieces of paper. I once wrote an entire chapter on a few napkins while I was at work. I have finished book 2, Beautiful Corruption and book 3, Eternal Corruption which is part 2 and 3 to Corruption of the Heart. I am also in the process of writing the fourth and final book to Corruption of the Heart, Corruption of Darkness. Writing is my passion, my dream. It is the one thing in this world that I love to do more than anything. I have a quote that I actually got tattooed on me, “Dream without fear. Write without limits.” I live by this quote every day.
